Welcome to the music studio of Michael and Elizabeth LaCroix!
While we may be new to Montréal, we are not new to teaching. Combined, we have a total of 48 years of teaching experience, but still manage a youthful, and engaging presence with students of all ages.
We offer Suzuki Piano instruction and traditional lessons in classical and jazz piano, pop/folk guitar, theory and composition to students of all ages, as well as preparation for the RCM examinations. Lessons are typically 30 minutes long, and include performance, reading, theory and aural skills. We also offer shorter lessons, usually for younger siblings, and longer lessons for more advanced students. We teach both in our home studio and in our students' homes depending on schedule.
Our students participate in a variety of performance experiences, including quarterly recitals, student workshops, competitions and exams. We believe performing is an integral part of learning music and strive to offer both formal and informal opportunities in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.
Interested students may schedule a free interview/lesson where we will determine which approach fits best with your family (Suzuki or traditional), student readiness, placement, and student/teacher compatibility.
More About Us
We are the proud parents of three girls, ages 10, 8, and 4, and we recently moved to Montreal from Chicago at the beginning of autumn 2016. The LaCroix Music Studio included dozens of students in the Hyde Park neighbourhood of Chicago (down the block from the Obamas), where we enjoyed a community of families and dear friends. We made the bittersweet decision to move in order to raise our own children in Canada, where there is better access to education all the way through university, healthcare, and to offer our kids the chance to become bilingual. Starting over has been difficult, but we already love our new surroundings.
"My two daughters studied with Mike for more than 5 years. I was impressed by his sensitivity to their individual interests and learning styles, and how he adapted his approach as they each grew as musicians...." Read more here: Testimonials
